(Because of You)

(Life-inspiring quotes relevant to our complex lives)

(absolutely riveting and inspiring)

I was looking for a gift for some very special people in my life. This book said the words I couldn't. It's very inspiring&a tribute to how these people influenced my life. I will certainly consider more books in this line for other events.
I was given this book as a gift for volunteering, and it was among one of the best gifts I have ever received. The quotes relate to our every day lives and to our values within them. I have found it extremely helpful not only in living my life, but also as a student writing papers for school. You are almost certain to find a quote in this book relevant to what you are looking for. I absolutely love it!
terrific book to give to a friend, teacher, coach or employee---you know, the unsung heroes in your life.
This beautiful and touching hardbound gift book is an unforgettable way to say thank you to the everyday people who brighten our lives. All of us have a thoughtful friend or a loving parent or a caring teacher mentor employee or volunteer who deserve-but seldom receive-a special tribute for the difference they make in our world. the inspirational quotations in were carefully selected to acknowledge and celebrate these unsung heroes in a way that makes a wonderful thank you for being you gift.

< Today You Die > < Mercenary for Justice > < Shadow Man > < Black Dawn > < Out of Reach > < Attack Force > price: Sony Pictures Home Ent(2005-11-22) In stock soon. Order now to get in line. First come, first served. customer 's review (One of Seagal's Best DTV Movies) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (Overweight, over the hill, horrid acting, and a really bad hair transplant.....) ![]() (Oh man, it gets worse...) ![]() (today you bored) ![]() ![]() (Today Seagal Gets 2 Stars...Barely!) ![]() ![]() This is one of Seagal's better DTV titles. It features some cool action sequences and tons of classic Steven Seagal charm. He and Treach make for a particularly fun pairing and play off each other nicely. Unlike many of Seagal's earlier DTV movies, this one gives him plenty of nice character moments. The tone of the movie is much more fun and in keeping with some of his best movies like Hard to Kill and Out for Justice. If you are a fan of Steven Seagal as a personality, then you will really enjoy this movie. I give a lot of credit to the director Don E. Fauntleroy. He also directed Seagal's very best DTV movie, Urban Justice. He knows how to stage a nice action sequence and use Seagal correctly. I hope they make more movies together in the future! This is my first direct-to-dvd Steven Seagal film, and it is also my last direct-to-dvd Steven Seagal film. The film is idiotic in nature, with possibly the most horrid acting since Pee Wee's Big Adventure. The plot is mind numbingly unrealistic (not even worth mentioning), in addition to the fact Seagal looks like 30 feet of bad road kill. He's overweight (is it any wonder he wears a bulky coat throughout the movie-hide that gut, Seagal-hide that gut) and over the hill, his hair transplant looks like it was grafted from a mangy dog, and his acting is the pits. Yet, in true Steven Seagal center-of-attention wannabe form, he gets the beautiful girl (who has to be 25 years his junior). Yeah, right. It's obvious to just about everyone who is paying attention, excluding Seagal, that his days as a top box office draw are long gone. I'd personally like to see him in a Grumpy Old Men type of film, perhaps with Chuck Norris and/or David Carradine. No more of these improbable only 10 years away from senior citizen discounts though I'm still able to conquer the world through brute force type of flicks. Yawn. Someone needs to tell this clown that he's fat, a disgustingly deficient actor sporting a grotesquely unnecessary mangy mop of a hair transplant, with a fatally career killing severe case of an unwarranted superiority complex. For me, his excessive narcissism comes forth in his performance, or lack thereof. Honestly, I feel sorry for the guy. He definitely needs to grow up. Do yourself a huge favor and skip this one and stick exclusively to the classic Seagal films of the late '80s and early '90s..... If you've read any of the other reviews for other noted 'Seagalists' on Amazon you will pretty much have my feelings on this film. This has got to be the worst Seagal film I've seen. I thought Out for a Kill and Ticker were his lowest points but this has got to be the king of the dung hill. I'm working my way (slowly, carefully) up to Attack Force and Flight of Fury so those might just take the title from this one, but this is not for anyone who has some sensiblity of what a good movie is. There are quite a few amusing (and bemusing) things to look out for: -From the opening credits, you know this one is going to be a stinker. Just listen to the crazy early 90's action guitar riffs and you'll understand. I seriously would not doubt if they recycled the soundtrack from Hard to Kill for this! -Seagal still in the shadows like Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now for about 80% of the film. Seems to be one of his trademarks now. At least there is none if any dubbing of Seagal's voice in this one. I don't think he takes the trademark arms crossed over belly posture much in this one either which is unusual (see Mercenary for Justice cover). -The whole plot point that doesn't really surface about Seagal's wife's visions. And about his employer, Max who was 'born with the devil inside me' (I kid you not, he actually uses that line! Seagal's retort is even funnier), having some connection to a little girl in a hospital. Apparently Tibetan mandalas that have no bearing on the scene can appear out of nowhere also for Seagal to interprete. The ending like all Seagal movies nowadays is only slightly above nonsensical. All this leaves you scratching your head. -The ability for our characters to walk away scot free. Apparently, Seagal can get away with breaking and entering (he is billed on the cover of the movie as a master thief after all), killing a number of police officers (on purpose)and a DEA agent, smashing civilian vehicles and by the end of the movie, walk free without any penalty. His buddy Ice, who for one was in penitentiary for some obvious felonious crime, is able to kill another inmate, start a prision riot, and escape from jail and by the end of the movie, fly to Switzerland, deposit stolen money, and jive walk his way out of the bank! -The state penetentiary where all inmates are guarded (or rather not guarded) by incompetent and lazy guards. I suppose we are to believe that as an inmate, you are free to wander the corridors of this maximum security facility without any supervision. Its quite laughable. -Seagal's confrontation scene with Bruno in the jail. Literally mops the room up with his face! -Seagal's extensive array of jackets and coats. The long brown Matrix inspired pleather coat is particularly handsome on him, hiding most of his belly protrusion. Also, note the hip Roca-wear jeans jacket he sports when he is admitted to prison. Borrowed from Treach most likely. -Seagal and Treach exchanging dialogue. This has to be the funniest thing the movie. Its so stilted its damn fun to watch. You aren't a Seagal fan until you have heard him attempt to speak jive. Seagal also uses more instances of the F-bomb in this movie that any other I've seen. -Classic Seagal disarms. Shotguns, handguns, its no problem since all bad guys get close to Seagal even though they can easily shoot him from across the room. -The stereotypical Tong gang (replete with high pitched Chinese flute music) with a small dis-homage to The Fast and the Furious. There is also a amusing part where Seagal puts a guy's head into a vice. -Seagal (or stunt double rather) swinging on a chandolier. You'll have to rewind to actually believe this one! Which brings me to the fact that there are more stunt doubles used in this movie that any other of his films in recent memory. Its pretty embarassing. The whole movie is just hacked. It feels like someone tried to use mostly stock footage to make a Seagal film. The director and cinematographer, Don. 'Little Lord' Fauntelroy was able to make a half descent attempt later with Mercenary for Justice, but this one seems to be his trial run and he didn't care. There are so many basic things for good moviemaking that are ignored that there are too numerous to go into detail about them. If you dare watch this 'film', you'll see what I mean. While Today You Die is not a horrible maovie, it just isn't an exciting one either. While I praise Seagal for keeping the movies coming, I can't praise the excitement level of his newer films. The age and weight of Seagal I guess is catching up with him, and therefore his level of skill in the martial arts department is diminishing. While he still kicks butt and keeps the bone-breaking alive, there is no skill to it in this movie. The story in Today You Die is nothing exciting either. The Seagal character is set up and set to prison. He escapes with the help of an inmate. The two become partners and get revenge for the guys who sent the Seagal character up. There is a twist with one of the chracters in the film, the only interesting part, but nothing that you may not have already seen coming. The lack of story requires more action than this movie provides. While scenes seem to cange often, attempting at keeping pacing strong, it still fails to heighten our most entertaining movie senses. The bright spot of the movie is Vegas. If you love Vegas there are plenty of clips of the city, during the day and during the night. Perhaps the only good spot of the movie is after the first 15 minutes of thie film, there is a decent car chase scene through downtown at night. You don't get many movies for a chase through Vegas, and this is pretty much the only reason for buying this dvd. This movie turns out to be only good for watching the first time, just to see what happens. Unlike most action movies that I can watch over and over for the action, I can't say that this is even worth it. Check out the chase scene in Vegas and that's all that is worthy. This is the second direct-to-video Seagal film that I have watched in a week. As I did with Out for a Kill, I've given Today You Die two stars. I've reserved 1 star for the Patriot and Submerged. I give TYD an extra star for the Las Vegas chase scene, somewhat coherent plot, and glimpses of Seagal doing Aikido. If I could I would downgrade TYD to 1.5 stars because of the hokey vision woman/girlfriend. She and her visions (seemingly totaly unrelated to the plot) became annoying after a while! On a different note my wife and I found it odd that Seagal was the only one wearing an oversized (obviously to hide his girh) jean jacket while in prison. I should also note that our hero's mumbling was kept to a minimum. His mumbling and films' poor sound qulaity often require the use of subtitles...not this time! The average person will think this film is total crap. Loyal Seagal fans will probably add a used copy of this to their collections and continue to hope for the day that Seagal will finally come out with something halfway decent. Count on Steven Seagal to pack a devastating punch - this time with a little something extra. Not only does he prove the fist is mightier than the gun, he uses the supernatural to dish out bone-crunching punishment. Harlan Banks (Seagal) is hired to drive a delivery truck in Vegas. He picks up $20 million in cash, when his double-crossing cohort blasts two security men and then holds his gun to Banks' head, ordering him to drive. After one of the most extraordinary chase scenes ever filmed on the streets of Vegas, Banks ends up in prison. But with a little mystical assistance, he escapes to unleash an explosive, unearthly vengeance. It offers a full-blown science fiction setting, complete with the transport of Ataru and all his high school chums to an exotic city on another planet, as the backdrop for an imaginative, funny and, ultimately quite touching romantic farce that sustains its manic pace of comic suspense to the very end. To make a long, eventful story short, Ataru finds himself engaged, inadvertently, to yet another gorgeous alien, the privileged and pampered Lady Elle, and is taken to her planet with Lum and all her friends in hot pursuit. Ataru shows no unwillingness to go, seeing as how this is a golden opportunity to meet a new hot babe-and get away from the clinging Lum. However, after a short-lived idyll with Elle in her palace, Ataru suddenly sees her true colors and is soon praying for Lum&co. to come and prevent the wedding. Fans of the series will enjoy this immensely, thanks to the way the writers have fashioned a story that makes clever use of all the main characters and a plot that takes them to the far reaches of the galaxy, back and forth in time, and finally back to their provincial little Japanese suburb. Those fans with an eye for anime babes will find plenty of female alien sex appeal on display here, thanks to the prominent roles played by Elle, Lum, and Lum's array of provocatively costumed girlfriends, not to mention Elle's army of female guards. The animation is more fluid than that of the TV series, with lots of intricate chases and battle action, and the design much more detailed. The film was directed by Mamoru Oshii, who also directed the first few seasons of the TV series and the second UY movie, BEAUTIFUL DREAMER. (He would go on to direct the PATLABOR movies and the anime sci-fi classic, GHOST IN THE SHELL.) Yes this movie is 19 years old. No one dies. There are no huge anime breasts. There are no giant mecha with extension cords. What dies it have then? Laugh after Laugh after Laugh. Urusei Yatsura is one of the greatest anime series in the history of Japanese animation, and although Only You does not hold up to the next movie Beautiful Dreamer, it is a gem of a film. The story starts 11 years ago in Ataru Moroboshi's past he plays shadow tag with a little girl, and says that he steps on her shadow. The girl said that on her planet that stepping on another's is a marriage proposel. Well, she leaves. Ataru becomes the biggest lecher in the world, but has the complete devotion of the oni princess Lum. Well, the little girl grows up and is readfy for Ataru to marry her. Of course Ataru wants to run away from Lum as quickly as possible, and it seems that a shield has been placed on Ataru to keep Lum from shocking him. What is a green-haired tiger striped bikini sportting alien princess going to do? Marry him first! The movie is fun, but suffers because all of the characters are not fleshed out enough, and some folks favorite characters might be left out or play bit roles: Sakura, cherry, etc. However, the movie is very entertaining and should be enjoyed. Urusei Yatsura needs more attention in America's anime market. It is a great series that shouldn't be forgotten. I'm sure most people know Oshii Mamoru from his sci-fi anime of a late eighties and nineties such as Patlabor and Ghost in the Shell. However, most fans of his later work don't seem to pay much attention to his earlier work on the Urusei Yatsura TV series and the first two of its six subsequent movies. I suppose the Gibson-esque world of Ghost in the Shell is considered much more interesting by most than the Flash Gordon hamminess of Lum, but if one looks closely they will find just as thoughtfully crafted work and, in the case of the first movie, an excellent example of how a ridiculous idea can be skillfully molded into engaging, light-hearted entertainment. By the time Urusei Yatsura: Only You came out in 1983, Lum already had an extremely strong following in Japan in both the manga and the TV series, and thus faced the typical problem all well-established series do when being converted into major motion pictures: how to include all the conventions of the series but also give the film a compelling story that anyone can enjoy. Fortunately, Only You does this remarkably well. For the uninitiated, Urusei Yatsura: Only You tells the story of Ataru Moroboshi, the most lecherous man in the Universe, and Lum, the bikini-clad space princess that is determined to tame him. Other characters include Shinobu, Ataru's would-be girlfriend; Mendou, the richest man in the world and rival of Ataru; and Benten, Lum's best friend and space biker-chick who wears chains. There are several dozen other Urusei Yatsura regulars that appear in this movie also, but the plot basically focuses around Lum and Ataru in this movie with most of the other characters being regulated to cameos of varying degrees. What the film does really well is capture the spirit, energy, and fun of Takahashi Rumiko's manga and the TV series while juggling situations and characters that effectively serve their purpose without bogging down the over all pace of the story. The plot involves Ataru's kidnapping by a rival space princess named Elle who wants to marry him, and Lum's attempts to win him back. From there the story takes off into an epic space farce that should make any fan of anime as well as classic sci-fi smile. The film contains several well-crafted scenes. The prologue where children are shown only in silhouette is cute and effective, and the title sequence is so wonderfully overdone that it refrains from saying"The Movie!"only by sheer force of will. Another scene I like is the first space battle that takes place between Lum's planet and Elle's planet. There is a very funny scene where Oshii has some fun cross-cutting between Ataru's refusal to admit he loves Lum and the stalwart conviction of the pilots who are fighting to defend their marriage. The visit to Planet Elle itself is another memorable sequence. Seemingly constructed in the shape of a giant rose, it invokes the kind of tacky paradise image that classic Star Trek only wished for. This is also where the final sequence of the film takes place, where Lum and her friends wage a bizarre battle to crash Elle's wedding. I have to admit there is something extremely endearing about beautiful little Lum piloting her fighter through a gauntlet to save the most worthless man in the Universe, and the final scene, which seems directly inspired by The Graduate, is so romantically cornball that I can't help but be utterly won over every time I see it. The reason why this movie works is because Oshii Mamoru has the decency to take it seriously. He does not condescend to the material at all, and stays firmly focused on its goofiest obsessions even in their tackiest extremities. The musical choices he makes in the film add to this considerably. Scoring the film like a old sci-fi serial is a delightful addition, and the use of songs and musical numbers throughout the film are warmly affectionate in the way that they have the decency to focus on the sentiment of the moment amidst the farce. Urusei Yatsura: Only You is excellent light entertainment. It is likable, fast-paced, tacky, absurd, and completely silly. In other words, it is everything a Lum movie should be. I recomend both this movie and Beutiful Dreamer. She can certainly sell a song. My only reservation about her is that she's a bit cocky. I think she could use some humility. Unbelievable breath control, phrasing, and style. My 10 yr. old Granddaughter who heretofore has listened and loved the usual rap and hip-hop, heard me playing this disc and begged me to buy her one........and I did, and she plays it all the time, and to her friends. Linda Eder exceeds the Streisand mystique by far. i am turning 60 years old this year. i went to my 1st.broadway musical in 1960. over the years i have had the honor to see almost all of the giants of american song, garland, streisand, patti lupone, lena horne, betty buckley, barbaracook etc. in "broadway, my way" linda eder cements her place as the best of the best. from an anthem like "i am what i am" to the lovely "on the street where you live" captures you body and soul. i loved this album, and don't ever miss a chance to see her live. JOHN POWER A great selection of songs. Tremendous amount of energy in Linda's voice. I just love it. Wow! Linda Eder has an outstanding voice. She sells Broadway in the styles of Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. After hearing this you will want more. The people who felt betrayed when Linda Eder covered several pop songs on 2002'sGoldwill be relieved that her follow-up,Broadway My Way, is a return to the Great White Way. As if to prove that she isn't limited to either the songs of Frank Wildhorn or ballads, Eder tackles some well-known show tunes. The ballads tend to be overwrought, so it's best to look for the uptempo numbers. The singer's take on "Some People" is technically fine but so va-va-voom showbiz that it lacks the deranged edge that makes the song so compellingly dramatic. Things work a lot better on "I Am What I Am": while Eder doesn't take it to the top (or ratheroverthe top), this is as close as she gets to Mermanizing a number. Elsewhere, "Don't Rain on My Parade" (immortalized by Streisand) and "Man of La Mancha" are appropriately brassy and triumphant, with Eder roaring her way through both songs. Fans of both Eder and Wildhorn should note that the singer reprises her Svengali's "Gold," the title track from her previous album, and an excerpt from his long-in-the-worksCamille Claudel.--Elisabeth Vincentelli On the eagerly awaited Broadway My Way, Atlantic recording artist and acclaimed Broadway sensation Linda Eder performs classics including 'On the Street Where You Live' (from My Fair Lady), 'Edelweiss' (from The Sound of Music), 'Don't Rain On My Parade' (from Funny Girl) and 10 other great broadway songs performed in a whole new voice. 2003.
